Stained-glass windows of the Colònia Güell's crypt:
The architect Antoni Gaudí (1852-1926) most representative of Catalan Modernism, designed the crypt of the church that was never completed. The hyperboloid windows includes the stained-glass windows that were inspired,as Gaudí said, in pine cones surrounding the Church.Gaudí used an old technique, the trichotomy, overlapping three glasses with the primary colors (red, blue and yellow) rinsed with hydrochloric acid to achieve the desired color. He replaced in this stained-glass window, the lead framework that supports the glasses by an structure of metal frame that frames the shapes. The original glasses were destroyed during the spanish civil war and were replaced by a colourless glass painted with oil painting. In 1968 they were restored with metal oxides and glazes. |
